Getting a Storage Unit? Items to Invest In

Posted on

Getting a storage unit is about much more than just stuffing your belongings in bags or totes and shoving them into a storage unit. If you want to get the most out of the experience, you need to have the right supplies to make your storing efforts most worth it. You can buy the following self-storage supplies at your local department store, packing, and supply store, or a specialty store that features moving supplies. You can also ask your local storage unit manager if they have supplies you can rent or if they can refer you to a company where you can get more unique items.

Boxes, labels, tape, and totes

Do not load all your clothing and other items in plastic or garbage bags because these bags can rip or get opened during transit or storage, causing items to spill out and potentially get lost. Rather, invest in boxes, totes, labels, and tape, all of which you can get at a department store. Some thrift stores also feature these items, such as totes, so you can check these places as well.

Pallets and cinder blocks

Pallets and cinder blocks allow you to store totes and boxes above the ground. Even a cement floor in a sealed indoor room can be prone to moisture, and you don't want to accidentally damage your sensitive items. If you don't have pallets, you can ask your local large department store or delivery warehouse if they have used pallets for sale. You can also look for these items online. Cinder blocks are an easier find and can be located at a home supply store or a garden store.

Dolly and pulleys

A dolly and pulleys will make it easier to get your items from one place to another if they are bulky, heavy, or otherwise awkward to move around. You can get these items at a home improvement store, and hold onto these: they come in handy for moving as well so you may want to keep them in the storage unit with your other belongings to make re-organizing easier later.

You can invest in more than just the basic storage unit when you need to relocate some of your belongings. When you put your money into a great storage unit facility, you know you have done your part to not only protect your items but make your investment in the supplies for self-storage more worth it as well.
